At this point it is unclear what will come first, the next sequel to Friday or a Tupac biopic. After TLC’s documentary raked in 4.5 million views on VH1′s premiere, it is safe to say the demand is there. The film set to depict the life of legendary rap artist, Tupac Shakur has been making headlines since 2011. However, due to legal feuds over creative control between Shakur’s mother and producers, little progress was made.
Morgan Creek, the company set to produce Tupac’s movie and Afani Shakur have since settled outside of court. According to Billboard the mother of the late rapper is now executive producer over the project. L.A. Times reports that the movie will begin shooting in Atlanta early 2014.
The script is making headway with Eddie Gonzales and Jeremy Haft, who wrote the 2011 direct-to-video crime drama “Street Kings II.” There is still no director or actors linked to the highly anticipated film, Tupac. Back in 2011 it was rumor that Soulja Boy was asked to audition. He told MTV’s Sway, “I got an email from William Morris Agency — that’s my agency that I’m with — they reached out to me to play the part. I’m just still thinking about it right now.”
Producers/financiers Morgan Creek and Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films have not decided if a familiar face or a new comer will play the rapper. Who would you like to see play Tupac? Here are a few suggestions.
